The Inductiva Machine Learning for Science & Engineering Summer School was designed for researchers, engineers, and professionals eager to explore the latest advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) applied to science and engineering.
The Program
The 5-day, exclusive invite-only program held May 19–23, 2025 at FEUP (The Engineering Faculty of the University of Porto), deep dived into state-of-the-art ML techniques and their transformative impact across various scientific fields (Computational Fluid Dynamics [CFD] were a key focus, but broader applications in engineering and scientific computing were explored). The program combined Open Sessions, Hands-on Sessions, and Theoretical Sessions, ensuring a holistic learning experience.
This initiative was sponsored by AptWind, an EU-funded project under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) within Horizon Europe. AptWind's goal is to train a new generation of innovative, industry-oriented researchers capable of addressing current and future challenges in atmospheric flow physics and turbulence for wind energy applications.
This edition of the Summer School welcomed a diverse group of 34 students, representing 19 nationalities, fostering a highly interdisciplinary environment. Participants came from both leading industry organizations and top European universities, forming a uniquely interdisciplinary cohort.

Event Impact and Highlights
The 2025 Machine Learning for Science & Engineering Summer School left a lasting impression on participants, speakers, and the broader community, based on the Feedback survey shared with the participants. Beyond delivering technical excellence, the event successfully cultivated a strong, diverse, and forward-thinking community at the intersection of AI and science.
